Key Bike Preparation Points
Go Over Your Motorcycle
- Thoroughly clean your bike if needed
- Check for any damage, tighten any loose nuts and bolts
- Inspect the wheels and brake pads, and check for any exposed wires
- Lube throttle and clutch cables and check that wheels are spinning freely
- Check foot pegs
- Check for cracks or damage to plastics, guards and windscreens
- Have a good look at your forks and fork seals, ensuring there aren’t any leaks
- Install additional add-ons where needed, e.g. crash bars
Air Filter, Oil & Fluids
- Ensure air filter is clean and monitor it regularly
- Check engine oil level, make sure it's fresh enough for the trip ahead
- Check bike has adequate coolant & brake fluid
- Monitor the age of the fuel in the tank to avoid the risk of old fuel clogging up fuel injectors
Battery, Wiring & Electrics
- Check battery is not flat
- Go over the fuses and replace any that have been blown
- Make sure all your lights and indicators are working
Wheels & Tyres
- Check the spokes and tighten up any loose ones
- Check tyre pressure – ensure pressure suits riding conditions
- Check tyres for cracks and uneven wear
- Replace any missing valve caps
- Stock up spare tyre tube & cable ties
Chain & Sprockets
- Check sprocket teeth are not worn
- Check chain tension & clean with a fresh coat of chain lubricant
Cleanout Toolbox & Gear Bag
- Go through your gear bag thoroughly and make sure every item is accounted for
- Clean out your toolbox & ensure all tools are accounted for
Once Over & Test Ride
- Do a quick test ride around the block
- Do a few U-turns to check your steering
- Hit the brakes hard a few times to ensure all is operating flawlessly
- While on a stand, run your bike through the gears

When packing & loading put your essential items together in one spot to ensure that nothing gets forgotten.
It's easier to keep a clean bike clean. Post ride washdowns will benefit your bike and your ride. Some dirt types can be really corrosive. We always recommend you clean your bike as soon as you can!
