WHY IS OFF-ROAD TRAINING FOR ADVENTURE RIDERS VALUABLE?

Off-road riding on Adventure Motorcycles comes with considerations not always felt and experienced on other sized motorcycles. The sheer weight of the bike and advancing electronics can be enough to turn the passionate rider into a hesitant one.

Hesitation can cause uncertainty, uncertainty can cause over-thinking and overthinking can create a lack of confidence in self, the bike and riding as a whole

Whether your planning to take your bike off-road or not, there is nothing better than feeling prepared!

Knowing you have skills to lean on is a much better feeling than being in the panic zone not knowing what to do next - potentially putting you, your bike and others at risk (No-one enjoys that!)

Our aim is to help build off-road awareness so that your confidence in yourself, the bike and your skills is not only higher than when you arrived, but you take away your TOP 3 skills on your "riding tool belt" to practice and work on specific to you as a rider.

Mostly....just imagine what incredible adventures can open up to you!

ROAD 2 DIRT  - Intro to Adventure (Off-Road Foundations)

IS THIS FOUNDATION COURSE FOR YOU?

Are you?

  • An experienced road rider new to dirt riding and off-road terrain?
  • An ADV rider with zero to limited off-road riding experience?
  • An ADV rider who rides off-road BUT isn't sure if your foundation skills are solid OR if you have created bad habits?
  • An ADV rider who want to reset their riding after some time off the bike?
  • An ADV who really isn't sure if they can count on their foundations "every time"?

WHAT IS COVERED DURING THE COURSE?

The beauty of our courses is that they are not static. Instead they move with the group, the riders and the types of bikes on the day. We listen to what you come for and make the decision on the day to increase or decrease certain items so that ALL the foundations are covered PLUS certain items specific to where you are at. We want to get to know you and how we can help!

Course content includes BUT is not limited to:

  • Standing + body position + footwork - ie: home base, attack position & anticipating movement.
  • Rear brake feels - ie: with and without clutch.
  • Rear brake Skids - ie: intro to sliding the rear tyre for turns.
  • Front brake feels - ie: lock up & release drill.
  • Cornering + weighting the pegs + locking through turns + throttle control.
  • Slow riding & balance technique - ie: Clutch friction point, control engine rpm, rear brake friction.
  • Intro to hills and descending.
  • Hill recovery process.
  • Assertive acceleration & MUCH MORE!

STILL WANT TO KNOW MORE?

ASK YOURSELF.............

  • Can I do a full lock U-turn on dirt?
  • Am I loosing balance and dabbing my feet on dirt?
  • Am I doing controlled skids and drifting out of turns on dirt?

What do we mean specifically?

Please see clarification below - (we are referring to off-road riding not bitumen)

  1. Full lock U-turn - Meaning, both feet up on the pegs, not touching the ground and using balance, throttle and clutch control to do a full lock U-turn. (We cover this in the Foundation course)
  1. Controlled skids in the gravel (We cover this in the Foundation course). On dirt roads we can find ourselves in slippery surfaces so knowing what the bike is going to do when the back wheel locks up is a foundation skill. Can you control the bike with a rear brake skid on PURPOSE & how uncomfortable does that make you? – Our Intermediate course involves hills where braking down-hill at times will definitely lock the back wheel if your foundations are NOT solid.
  1. Drifting out of turns - On the exit of turns when in gravel or corrugations even constant throttle will slip the back wheel & as per the foundation point above. We like to know how uncomfortable are you in this scenario? If you are uncomfortable then you need to attend our Foundations course first before attending the intermediate course.

Our Foundations course ROAD 2 DIRT covers all of these scenarios above in detail where the Intermediate course TRACKS 2 TRAILS is for riders who are less uncomfortable with the scenarios above AND have SOLID foundations in place and are ready to master them and others further.
